Editing allows the author to see his own work through unbiased eyes and is a critical part of the writing process. It is one of the things an indie author must arrange for her/himself. As an editor I will spend at least a month poring over your work, helping to make your manuscript ready for the world. I work on only one manuscript at a time.
You can contact me regarding editing at cjjasperson.editing@gmail.com. If I feel your manuscript is not yet submission ready after reading the first 1/3, I can’t in good conscience charge you a fee, as it would be a waste of both our time and your money. I will let you know immediately, and give you pointers on what you need to do to remedy that, at no cost to you.
Submissions should be formatted as WORD documents, Times New Roman 11 or 12 pt font. Using the ribbon at the top, on the far right-hand side of the home tab click Select All. This will highlight your entire document. With the entire document highlighted, open the paragraph tab to drop down the formatting menu. The document should be aligned left, creating a ragged right-hand margin. Sentences should be double-spaced with no extra space between paragraphs. The first line of each paragraph should be indented .3, and formatted using the ribbon (not the tab key). (See the illustration).
What you will get back from me:
Your manuscript will be returned to you with suggestions for revisions noted in the review column on the right-hand side of the document. You will receive a separate report detailing my overall impressions of the strengths and weaknesses your manuscript. During the editing process, a word-frequency report will be generated, and a stylesheet will be developed for usages and unique spellings that may pertain to your manuscript. Via email, we will discuss the names and usages that may differ from standard usages to create that style sheet, and I will ask questions regularly, as I have them. I will respond to your questions as soon as I receive your email.
Editing Fees:
$200.00 flat rate for short stories to 15,000 words
$350.00 flat rate for manuscripts from 15,000 to 25,000 words
$500.00 flat rate for manuscripts from 25,000 to 50,000 words
$500.00 flat rate for manuscripts from 25,000 to 50,000 words
$700.00 flat rate 50,000 to 90,000 words
$800.00 plus $ .01 per word for manuscripts over
Beta Reading Service:
$150.00 – You will receive a report detailing my overall impressions regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the story from the point of view of a reader, and a word-frequency report.
All fees are payable through Paypal, with 50% due at the time your submission is accepted, and the other 50% due when the edit is complete.
